Weight Loss Benefits of Water

Often times we think we’re hungry when we’re actually just thirsty. Drinking water helps boosts metabolism, suppresses appetite and lose water weight.

Here are some suggestions on ways for you to enjoy the weight loss benefits of water.

  • Get into the habit of drinking water more regularly. If you find this difficult, set an alarm on your cell to remind you.
  • Keep water near you. Always have a refillable water bottle or jug of water prepared to make it easier to drink more water.
  • Drink a glass of water half an hour before every meal to help you feel full and eat less.
  • Replace sweetened drinks and alcoholic drinks with water. You can save hundreds of calories per day with this change.
  • If you’re a coffee or tea lover, be sure to drink equal amounts of water per ounces of coffee or tea. So, if you have an 8 ounce serving of coffee, also drink 8 ounces of water.
  • Combine a calorie-restricted diet with your new water intake habits for greater weight loss success.

The body needs around 0.33ml of water per 1kg of body weight to remain adequately hydrated.  For someone who is 70kg’s that equates to needing to consume approximately 2.5 litres of water per day.  When your body is dehydrated your blood becomes sticky and thick, this means your body has to work harder to transport oxygen around your body which can result in you feeling lethargic.   When in this state, you are more likely to crave sugar and stimulants to boost your energy levels.

When you increase your water consumption, you will not only help to stave off hunger, you will help regulate your body processes and detoxify your body to rid it of harmful pollutants that may have built up in your body.  This in turn may also help you jumpstart your weight loss and/or help you maintain a healthy weight.
