How to Choose a Cosmetic Dentist

Many of us are familiar with cosmetic surgery procedures, which focus on the body and skin health; cosmetic density is a field that is increasing in popularity, after all, what good is having a “facelift,” if your teeth let-down your smile and reveal your age?

As with any surgery, there a number of risks associated with cosmetic dental surgery and whilst there are many dentists who are able to perform cosmetic dentistry procedures such as; veneers, teeth whitening, dental implants, and gum lifts they may not perform these procedures as frequently as a dentist who performs cosmetic surgery procedures on a daily basis.  These types of cosmetic dentistry clinics will have a track record of success and higher frequency of performing those procedures.

How To Choose A Cosmetic DentistIn choosing a cosmetic dentist your aim will be to decrease your chances of poor results and complications.

Here are our tips to help you choose a cosmetic dentist.

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask your primary care dentist for recommendations.  Once they know that you intend to remain with them for your annual checkups, x-rays and hygiene appointments they should understand your decision to see a specialist for specialist work.
  2. Ask your network of friends, co-workers, or family members if they know of any quality cosmetic dentists in your area. However, getting recommendations from those that you know should not lessen the amount of background checking and research you will have to do yourself.
  3. Research online.  Cosmetic dentists who have an online presence can be a reliable source where you will likely find information on dentist’s qualifications, number of years in dentistry, the types of cosmetic procedures performed, and a brief summary of the process, fee structure as well as before and after pictures.
  4. Check your health insurance. Do not assume that your health insurance will cover the cosmetic procedure you are wanting as not all cosmetic surgery is covered by dental insurance.

As more individuals start to take note of the health and appearance of their teeth.  Common cosmetic dentistry procedures such as those outlined above will become common practice.

If you are someone who feels that your teeth is having a negative impact on your self-confidence and smile, seeking treatment from a cosmetic dentist could change your perspective, outlook and confidence.  Once you have decided on this course of action, your next step is to prepare for your consultation.

At a consultation appointment, you and your cosmetic dentist can decide on a course of treatment, explain your procedures in more detail, outline the recovery process and after care procedures, as well as show you before and after pictures.
