How to Clear Skin Pigmentation

Over 60 per cent of women list pigmentation as a skin concern. If your skin is showing signs of dark spots, uneven skin tone, freckles, or melasma also known as the ‘pregnancy mask’, the way in which you treat the damage and dis-coloration will depend on what was the cause of pigmentation in the first place.
How To Clear Skin Pigmentation

Home skin care

Home skin care plays an important role in preventing further damage and in protecting the skin.  Your home skin care regime should include products with antioxidant ingredients as well as important vitamins A, B3 and C. In addition to this we recommend the following:

  • The application of a topical brightening serum or skin lightening cream.  Hyperpigmentation is the term used to describe the brown patches or spots we refer to as sun spots. They are caused by sun exposure and can be treated with skin lightening and brightening products as they contain melanin inhibitors to target the pigment.
  • Regular exfoliation will slough away pigmented cells and enhance the skins ability to absorb skin care products more efficiently.  Exfoliation can include: creams, enzyme peels and skin resurfacing peels such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion or skin needling.
  • A daily application of a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30+ is essential in stopping new sun spots from forming and pigmentation from rebounding.

Skin Assessments

As a pre-emptive approach to anti-aging, schedule regular maintenance treatments every 6-8 weeks with your favorite skin clinic as this will ‘boost’ the performance of your home-care products.

Have your skin professionally diagnosed and assessed at three month intervals.  If you co-ordinate these with the changing of the seasons your Esthetician can recommend solutions and treatments to help your skin adapt.

For a Personalized Skin Type Assessment Consultation and a prescriptive evaluation of your skin visit:

During our 45 minute On-Line Virtual Consultation, we complete a Skin Health Questionnaire to uncover your specific skin concerns.  From here, we identify the correct home care advice, skin care treatment protocols and product recommendations in a personalized report. This Information in our report will make all the difference in helping you know how to clear skin pigmentation and achieve healthy radiant skin.

If you are at all concerned about any spots on your skin, see your doctor or a skin cancer clinic for a thorough skin examination.
