Skin Prick Test

What is the procedure when scheduled for a skin prick test?

Skin Prick TestA specialist conducts a skin prick test (SPT) to immediately confirm the occurrence of allergic symptoms in response to an allergen.

In this test, the specialist will put a drop of liquid which contains the allergen (or, in the case of food, a piece of fruit or vegetable) on the arm or back of their patient.

A positive result is usually indicated by the presence of a wheal (a white bump in the middle of a tiny, circular layer of itchy red skin).
