Do you wonder whether the makeup you use ages your skin?

I bet you have a top draw full of several brands of make-up! I know how easy it is to get sucked into the marketing hype in the glossy magazines the bright lights and pretty displays of the makeup counters in the department stores (I am a woman too!) and I know what it’s like to spend thousands of dollars on makeup and beauty products in my desire to camouflage my fine lines, wrinkles and un-even toned skin.

The question of whether makeup ages our skin prematurely is a myth. Why?

This knowledge gives us confidence when we purchase products to believe the manufacturers claims. In many cases the ‘synthetic’ ingredient in a product is far more superior to the ‘natural’.

Wearing makeup isn’t the cause of aging skin.

The answer may lie in the lack of consistent care and attention we give our skin for it to maintain its optimum health in the first place. Regardless of your skin type, all you really need to do is be vigilant about practicing a skin care regime that is appropriate for your skin type.

Follow these EIGHT Steps for you to maintain soft, youthful glowing skin – regardless of age:

  1. Drink at least six to eight glasses of water a day for healthy body functioning.
  2. Have at least eight hours sleep a night. Whilst you are sleeping cell renewal increases.
  3. To avoid damaged caused by exposure to UV rays, apply a sunscreen every day.
  4. Eat a healthy diet. Your skin needs vitamins, minerals and nutrients for it to function correctly. Vitamin A keeps skin healthy and prevents it from becoming dry and flaky. Vitamin C is important for the production of collagen and Vitamin E helps to rehydrate the skin and speed up the healing process.
  5. Use a cleanser morning and night. By cleansing in the morning you are removing a buildup of dead skin cells and preparing your skin before you apply your make-up. In the evening, cleansing to completely remove your makeup, dirt and pollutants will prepare your skin for hydration and restoration.
  6. Try to exercise daily to increase circulation, and lymphatic flow which will help improve your skins condition and color making it look younger!
  7. Reduce alcohol intake as this will dehydrate your skin.
  8. Avoid smoking. Cigarettes reduce the vital nutrients and oxygen required for a healthy skin and causes dull lifeless looking skin. Smoking also activates harmful free radicals and weakens collagen and elastin fibers causing premature wrinkling of your skin.

Follow our guidelines and your skin care routine will become habitual. So that the next time you apply your make–up you will feel confident in the fact that your makeup is simply doing the job of enhancing your natural beauty and not contributing to the aging process.
