Skin Health Hub Skin Health Exfoliation For MenThe aim of cleansing is to remove surface dirt and bacteria, pollution from the environment, the top layer of dead skin cells and congestion in the pores. If dead cells are not removed the texture of the skin can appear dull and lifeless, look rough and uneven, skin pores can become congested, blockages can form and ingrown hairs can occur. However, washing your face with a gentle pH balanced, non-perfumed cleanser twice a day can become an important first step in improving the function of your skin.

How do you know which cleanser is right for you? Use a cleansing lotion or cleansing milk that is recommended for your skin type.

Oil-in-water

For example, an oil-in-water emulsion that is 90% water will be less drying on a young skin, however if prone to break-outs a cleanser containing an astringent such as alcohol may assist in controling the flow of sebum.

Water-in-oil

These emulsions are best suited for dry and mature skins as the small amount of water will evaporate and cool the skin whilst the oil content will removes the grease and dirt.

Wash cleansers

Facial wash cleansers are a great option for those who prefer to use water on their face but do not want the feel of the face feeling tight or stripped after use. Wash cleanser are available for normal, oily and combination skins.

Most men may find choosing the right cleanser may come down to trial and error and a cream cleanser delivers more benefits to the skin in the winter months than summer. At the end of the day, the important point is improve the functioning of your skin it should be regularly cleansed to remove surface dirt, pollutants and remove the top layer of accumulated dead skin cells.

The benefits of exfoliating

In order to more effectively remove dead skin cells and speed-up skin renewal, exfoliation is recommended. Exfoliating for men should be performed once or twice a week by gently scrubbing your face to free it of these dead cells, clear congestion of pores and at the same time help smooth fine lines and wrinkles too.

Care should be taken however, not to over-scrub as exfoliating too often could lead to redness, irritation, and dryness of the skin.

Most exfoliating facial scrubs are creamy in texture and include very fine particles such as oatmeal, crushed nut kernels and cleansing granules. Generally, exfoliating facial scrubs are applied with your fingertips, is mixed with water to form a paste and is then massaged in circular motions paying particular attention to the chin, nose and forehead before being rinsed off with water.

If you do use an exfoliation cream, it’s important to avoid damaging your skin. Many men can tend to apply too much pressure or stretch and drag the skin unnecessarily. One way to minimize over scrubbing or avoid using the wrong types of scrubs (some can contain pulverized shells and seeds) which could damage and scratch the skin, is via the use of a manual exfoliating tool.

The benefits of using a manual exfoliating tool such as a microdermabrasion machine is to provide a more controlled method of reducing: fine lines and wrinkles, refine acne-scarred skin, remove skin congestion, and improve skin color and pigmentation and increasing cellular circulation.

Increasingly popular as treatments in skin clinics and day spas, you will find the method of microdermabrasion as a state-of-the-art therapeutic method of skin abrasion to be an ideal way to deeply cleanse, polish and soften your skin making it the best alternative to exfoliation for men.
