Should I have a Skin Care routine in my Teen’s

It is never too early to learn how to look after your skin. I would even go so far as to say, the perfect time to start taking care of your skin is in your pre-teens and teenage years. 1st Cleanse: Wash your face morning and night using a mild gel-based cleanser that foams when combined with water. 2nd Tone: Applying a toner is essential to help maintain your skin’s natural PH levels. The quickest way to apply a toner is to ‘spritz’ your face. Simply fill an empty bottle that has a spray nozzle with your toner and spray 10-15cm away from your face a couple of times.

3rd Moisturize: Use a moisturizer that is light, oil-free and non-comedogenic, so it won’t clog your pores. The trick here is how you apply your moisturizer. After spritzing with your toner, your skin will still be ‘damp’ so this will help your moisturiser disperse more quickly. You will only need to apply a tiny dollop to your cheeks, chin and forehead for your whole face to be sufficiently moisturized.

Once your daily skin-care has become a habit you are ready to add 3 more essential steps to your routine.

1. Exfoliate: Exfoliate twice a week using a mild granulated cream. Concentrate on your T-Zone around your nose, forehead and chin to eliminate a build-up of dead skin cells, reduce excess oil, and the occurrence of breakouts. Remember to be gentle and only use your fingertips to create small circular motions in each section for around 30 seconds at a time.

2. Face Mask: Applying a ‘clay’ mask once per week will deep-cleanse your pores. Again, a mask will help control oil flow and draw-out any impurities helping you maintain a clear complexion.

3. Use sun protection: Using a sun screen daily not only protects your skin from the sun but will help prevent premature aging as 90 percent of premature aging is caused by Ultra Violet (UV) exposure. For girls, using a tinted moisturizer, foundation and/or mineral powders with sunscreen are a great way for you to protect your skin every day.
