Skin Care For Summer

How to take adapt Your Skin Care for Summer

Imagine wearing your winter clothes – knitted sweaters, bulky jackets, warm jeans in summer. You just wouldn’t do it, you’d be running with sweat, gasping for breath, and probably overheating. That’s exactly what we’re doing to our skin if we do not change our skin care in response to the change of season.

Skin Health Hub Skin Health Skin Care For SummerAlthough there is nothing wrong with ‘extra’ protection, in summer your skin needs the right kind of protection or we risk premature ageing, sun damaged skin, pigmented skin, dry and flaky skin and even blemishes.

As we spend a lot more time outdoors enjoying the weather in summer it’s important to consider the impact this has on our skin.

Skin care tips to help you choose the right skin care for summer.

  • Apply a moisturizer every day. Your skin loses natural moisture through evaporation. That is why it is necessary to prevent further moisture loss and plump out the skin’s tissues by applying a moisturizer. If you dislike the consistency of a heavy cream opt for a lightweight oil-in-water emulsion containing a humectant. If you skin is dry, you will need a richer moisturizer, a water-in-oil cream to trap moisture in the skin and prevent dehydration.
  • The best moisturizers contain natural plant-based oils that are quickly and easily absorbed. They also contain protein complexes that stimulate the production of new cells and fibers, which increase the skin’s structure and resilience.
  • Make sunscreen a regular part of your skin care regimen. Aging is accelerated by sun damage due to UV rays. Skin cancer is also a possible side effect of sun exposure, so always protect your skin. We encourage you to wear some form of sun protection at all times such as sunglasses, hat and loose clothing to cover arms and legs.

Our preference would be for you to choose a sunscreen as a standalone product rather than the SPF being contained within your cosmetics (foundation and moisturizer). This is so each product can perform the duty for which it has been designed. Pick a sunscreen which offers broad spectrum protection from harmful UVA/UVB rays and contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.

Note: We need only 10 minutes of sun a day in order to allow the body to produce vitamin D.

  • If your skin is on the oily side, use a powder-based foundation. These foundations are formulated to absorb any extra oil on your skin. Plus, they will even out your skin tone and give your skin a flawless finish.
  • Your lips are the most sensitive type of skin anywhere on the body. Be certain that you use a lip balm with UV protection to prevent cracked lips, keep your lips moist and protect them from the sun’s damaging UV rays.
  • Choose natural ingredients. One ingredient that is quite prevalent in commercial creams and lotions is alcohol, which is very drying for the skin. If you notice that a product contains alcohol, try something else.
  • Don’t use products containing harmful substances. Make sure that you use products that don’t have artificial preservatives, chemicals, fragrances, paraffin, petrochemicals, petrolatum, alcohol, and ethylene oxide in them. With prolonged use, all of these may harm your skin and can cause allergies and irritations as well.

The information included here will assist you in establishing a skin care routine that works for you. Keep this advice in mind when choosing products to get the best skin care for summer. Remember, how you care for your skin now will determine its condition later on in life so why not give your skin the best opportunity to shine.
