The Power of Exfoliation

Flicking through my favorite fashion magazine recently, admiring how the celebrities always look to have glowing skin (Photoshop aside) reaffirmed my belief in the power of exfoliation.  But, I’m not just talking about simple facial exfoliating scrubs here. Let me explain.

Exfoliation is a critical step in maintaining a healthy skin.

The Power Of Exfoliation
You see, the human skin produces approximately 36 million new skin cells every day, so it is not surprising given today’s lifestyle that cells easily become  damaged, contaminated with pollutants and when cells are not shed properly, congestion can build in the pores causing blackheads, whiteheads or acne bacteria to form.  Let’s take a look at some of the latest exfoliation options and the levels of effectiveness based on their ingredients.

Mild rice bran extract, corn cob meal, fruit derived enzymes offers a mild exfoliation for sensitive skin.
Medium Depth ingredients such as lactic acid, salicylic acid and retinol are
more powerful and provide a more results focussed outcome and a more polished, fresh skin.
High Performance – high-tech peptides such as hexanoyl dipeptide-3, norleucine acetate, galactoarabian, aminopeptidase and trichloroacetic acid will deliver significant improvements loosening keratin cell debris revealing more supple, vibrant tissue underneath.

Although different effects can be achieved depending upon the ingredients used.  Care needs to be taken to accurately evaluate your current skin condition  to  reduce the likelihood of any unwanted reactions and complications which could arise from the power of exfoliation.  For instance, client’s taking retin –A, isotretinion (accutane) within the past six months should not undergo an intensive exfoliation treatment.
